Beena Bharati Vidya Mandir win Mixed Gender Football

Bhubaneswar : Beena Bharati Vidya Mandir emerged of the Mixed Gender Football Tournament, defeating Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir through sudden d3eath rounds at the Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir School in Patrapada in the city out skirt on Saturday.

In a bid to breaking gender barriers, Pro Sport Development (PSD) organized the tournament, in partnership with the Fare Network, as part of the Community Sports Program supported by Tata Trusts.

Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir and Beena Bharati Vidya Mandir. The final was evenly fought as both teams ended at 1-1 at full time. This resulted in there being a penalty shootout to decide the winner. The penalty shootout was also ended in 1-1 draw and the match went to sudden death round.

After seven rounds of sudden death, finally the team from Beena Bharati Vidya Mandir emerged as the winner.

Altogether 143 players (50 percentage girls) from across five different schools in the city namely, Satya Sai School, Saraswati Sishu Mandir, Vivekananda Siksha Kendra (Dum Duma), Binabharati Vidya Mandir and Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir were participated.

Each team in the tournament had a squad of 10 to12 members out of which seven were playing members played on the field. From these seven playing members, at least three had to be girls. The 12 teams were divided into four groups, with each group playing round robin matches.

Top two teams from each group then headed into a knockout format, with quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final being played. .
