ED serve notice to IM Padmini Rout

Bhubaneswar : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) probing in to the money laundering scam by deposit collection company Star Consultancy has summoned IM Padmini Rout. While the ED has asked the chess player to appear before them on Wednesday, Padmini could not appear as she is currently in Abu Dhabi for a tournament.

The managing director of the fraud company, Triveni Mohanty who is absconding has allegedly sponsored the chess player after she won the World under-14 girls' championship in 2008. The company allegedly signed a three-year contract with the chess player (2008-2011) to bear the cost of her coaching and participation in open international tournaments.

The company allegedly swindled more than Rs 100 crore from investors promising them quick returns. In April this year, the ED had attached the company's assets worth Rs 83 lakh including immoveable property worth Rs 50 lakh and Rs 33 lakh bank balance.

In June 2013 parents of several budding chess players of the state had lodged a complaint with the Economic Offence Wing against Ashok Rout accusing him to have lured them to invest in the company.

Triveni was arrested twice in December 2010 and April 2011 by Saheed Nagar police following complaints by several investors, who had been cheated by the company.

Sources allegedly that, Padmini is the small fry of the big scam but any members of the then Odisha State Chess ad-hoc were involved in this, if the egency will put its sincere effort they will caught many big players. .
