CM felicitates international medalist Babulu Munda

Bhubaneswar : Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik felicitated and congratulated Babulu Munda from Barbil and awarded him with Rs 2.33 lakhs here on Monday, for his sterling performance at Wushu World Championship in Brazil. Wished him the best for future endeavours in the Martial Art sport.

Babulu bagged silver medal in the 7th World Junior Wushu Championship held at Brasilia in Brazil from July 10 to 16.

In the final of the 42kg sub-junior boys Sanshou event, Babulu suffered defeat from Egyptian counterparts to claim the silver medal. While the Indian team won nine medals which included four silver and five bronze medals.

Babulu a Class VIII student at the Government Nodal UP School in Barbil hails from a very poor tribal background from Sialijoda village of Deojhar Gram Panchayat of Keonjhar District. Babulu picked up by JSPL and Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan with the support of Wushu Association of Orissa (WAO).

He own many medals in Kickboxing and Wushu in State and National level, he started his sporting career at the tender age of six under the guidance of Pankaj Mahanta, a Black Belt Instructor of International repute Master S.S. Harichandan .
