Jayanti bags silver in Asian Para Games

Bhubaneswar : Odisha sprinter Jayanti Behera added another feather in her cap by winning the women 400 metre race in the Asian Para Games also known as 3rd Asian Para Games, which is currently taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Jayanti clocked 59.71 second o receive the silver medal, while the gold and bronze medals were won by Li Lu of China and Shigemoto Sae of Japan with a timing of 58.39 and 59.74 seconds respectively. Jayanti not only clocked her career best timing in the 400 metre race, she also created new para national record, informed her coach Bishnu Mishra.

Earlier, Track and field Paralympic athlete Jayanti Behera on Tuesday won bronze medal in 200 metre sprint event.

Earlier, Behera, whose left hand and waist were burnt in a fire mishap when she was just one-year-old. She had won three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 400m events in the last two editions of National Para-Athletic Meets and one gold and two silver medals in Asian Youth Para Games-2017 in Dubai.

She had also bagged gold in 400-metre event at the World Junior Para Athletic Championships held in Nottwil, Switzerland and another gold medal at the China Open Para Athletic Grand Prix Championship last year. .
