15 Deaf chess players to join national chess meet

Bhubaneswar : A 15-member Odisha deaf chess team has been selected to participate in the 21st National Deaf Chess Championship schedule to be held at Jaipur in Rajasthan from December 1 to 5.

Altogether 40 players from across 10 districts were took part in the 21st State Deaf Chess Championship held at Pokhariput DAV School on Sunday.

The players were participated in senior men, women, junior boys and girls section five round tournament.

Susanta Kumar Sahu of Khudha and Pratima Dalai of Cuttack were gathered five points each to become men and women events champion respectively. While Bipin Bihari Sahu of Khurdha and Subhadra Kisko scored four and three points to win the boys and girls titles respectively.

Social Security and Empowerment of Person with Disabilities Department director Susanta Mohapatra gave away the prizes as the chief guest of the closing ceremony in presence of Odisha Sports Council of the Deaf President Asit Mishra, Nisith Kumar Mohanty and Satya Ranjan Pattnaik. .
