Lenka causes upset in All India ranking tennis tourney

Bhubaneswar : As the tournament progressed the competition seems to be tougher, the unseeded players were dominated the day by causing three upset in the men’s single’s quarterfinal matches, it began with unseeded Lenka Suhith Reddy of Telangana was caused the biggest upset of the day by eliminating top seeded Chinmaya Pradhan of Odisha by 6-4 6-0 (6) and barged into the men’s singles semifinal of the Dushan Deo Memorial AITA-OTA All India Men's Ranking 1Lac Tennis Tournament 2018 at Puri on Thursday.

Other two unseeded players Ominder Baisoya of Haryana and Aditya Vardhan Roy Chowdhury of West Bengal were upset fourth seeded Rohit Rampuria and fifth seeded Arghya Das both of West Bengal by 2-6 7-5 6-3 and 4-6 7-5 7-6(2) respectively to conform the semifinal place, while second seeded local player Ansu Kumar Bhuyan entered semifinal by defeating his State-mate Amrutjay Mohanty 6-0,7-5.

Altogether 36 players from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh,Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh,Gujarat, Tamil Nadu,Maharashtra, Haryana and Odisha are in the title race.

All players from main draw will get national ranking points as follows: 1st round, 2nd round, quarterfinalists, semifinalists will get two, three, five and 10 points respectively, while the champion and runner up will get 20 and 25 points respectively.

Similarly, in the men’s doubles quarterfinal matches, local duo Amrutjay Mohanty and Abhishek Mohapatra edged out third seeded Arghya Das of West Bengal and Hemant Kumar of Uttar Prasdesh6-7(2) 6-3 10-2. However, conceding a set down top seeded Ansu Kumar and Abhiveer Singh Sekhawat of Rajasthan edged out Odisha player Aditya Satapathy and his partner Chinmay Pradhan 1-6 7-5 14-12. .
