V V Karate kids bag 17 medal in Commonwealth Championship

Bhubaneswar : Bhubaneswar based V V Karate school’s nine players who were part of the 130-member Indian contingent bagged seven gold, two silver, eight bronze and total of 17 medals in the 9th Commonwealth Karate Championship held in Durban, South Africa, from November 29 to December 2.

The medalists were got an emerging welcome at Biju Patnaik International Airport here on Wednesday.

As many as nine countries, including Sri Lanka, Namibia, Mauritius and Botswana were participated in the four day championship.

The Indian karatekas were participated in the sub-junior , junior, cadet, U-21 boys and girls, senior both men and women categories, while apart from Valena Valentina her V V Karate School players were took part in Under-14 boys and girls kata events.

Odisha’s ace karateka Valena bagged a bronze medal in the senior women individual kata, her students Bidya Kiran, Ansika Mohapatra and Suromita Sinha were bagged gold medal in the girls team kata event, while Bidya and Ansika both also won a gold medal each in the individual kata events and Suromita got individual bronze. Similarly, Alisha Subudhi won a gold and silver medal in individual kata and kumite event respectively.

However the boys team comprising of Rudra Prasad, Divyak Nayak and Bedant Das received bronze medal. Bedant also won a silver medal in the individual kata. Jasmini P Mishra received double bronze in individual kata and kumite events. .
