Day of upset in main draw of National TT meet

Bhubaneswar : Many young unseeded players started upsetting seeded players in both men and women singles main draw events, in the women singles second round Anusha of Madhya Pradesh upset 4th seeded Dibya Despande in the 11sports 80th National Senior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championships at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday.

Similarly, in the men's singles second round, Senthil Kumar of Karnataka and Jaydeep Das coused upset by winning over 14th seeded Raj Mondal and 15th seeded SFR Snehit respectively.

The biggest upset of the day caused by Kiranjoy Pushilal of West Bengal in the men singles round of 32 by winning over 3rd seeded Sudhanshu Grover of PSPB by 11-8, 5-11,7-11,3-11,11-8,11-7,18-16. Another men paddler, Ronit Bhanja of West Bengal edged past 16th seeded Jubin Kumar of Haryana.

Similarly in the women's singles round 32, Shruthi Amrute of Railway Sports Pramotion Board upset 5th seeded Pooja Sahasrabudhe of Maharashtra by 11-6,4-11,5-11,11-9,13-11,11-7.

The journey of local paddlers ended today, Asif Haque and M Eshwar Rao lost their second round men's singles main draw matches from Sibananda Sishadri of Tamil Nadu and Zouvin Kumar of Haryana by 3-2 and 3-0 respectively, while Snehamaya Mallick and Kishan Prusty suffered defeat from Senthura Pandy of Andhra Pradesh and Aleeko Hazaika of Assam by 3-0 each in the first round. Only women player of the State, Samartha Prusty also lost her second round match against Puja Sharma of IA&AD by 1-3.
