CM Naveen inaugurates five high performance centres

Bhubaneswar : Today is a historic day for sports development in Odisha, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while inaugurating five high performance centres (HPC) at Kalinga Stadium here on Monday.

Top professionals, corporates and the Government of Odisha have joined together in this mission to take sports to next level. I am sure that these centeres of excellence will not only benefit the state but the entire country, Naveen added.

While dedicating the centres to the sports loving people of the state, Naveen expressed his thanks to every one who are with this initiative and for joining us in the journey of making Odisha the sports capital of India.

On the occasion CM also inaugurated the international standard climbing wall inside the Kalinga Stadium. He also felicitated international, national and khelo India medal winners and participants with cash awards.

The felicitation ceremony on the other hand recognized the efforts and achievements of 162 players from different sports categories, who bought accolades for the state with their remarkable performances throughout the year at different national events. Some of the cash payments given out included- Pramoda Bhagat, Para Badminton, Rs. 70,00,000/-; Jayanti Behera, Para Athletics, Rs. 60,00,000/-; Prachurya Kumar Pradhan, Blind Chess, Rs. 20,00,000/- and Sri. Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, Blind Chess, Rs. 20,00,000/-

The CM inaugurated Badminton HPC supported by Dalmia Bharat and Pullela Gopichand, while Weightlifting HPC supported by Tenvic Sports and KJS Ahluwalia group and football HPC by JSW Sports Bengaluru FC. However the athletic HPC supported by Reliance foundation.

The centre of excellence in sports management supported by Xavier Emlyon Business School and KJS Ahluwalia group also inaugurated.

The way Odisha Government showed interest and envelopment towards developing sports by in large, set a example for other state in the country. We are going to set up a 1 lac square feet built up area indoor hall, where we will set up 10 badminton courts. Along with gymnasium , cafeteria and fitness centre, said Gopichand.

Now only one Odia shuttler Rutuparna Panda was proved her ability compete in the international arena. Days are not far away many more such players will produce from this HPC in future, added Gopichand.

We are already started our grass root activities in the State. Our Iranian coach presently finalised 25 lifters from Bhubaneswar and Berhampur to join the HPC. In future we will find out 25 more lifters to join here, said Tenvic Sports founder Anil Kumble.

In a bid to make Odisha a global sports destination, three months back the Government had inked MoU to set HPC in the state capital. Today with the inauguration of these HPC, Odisha will be emerged as the finest centre for training and coaching, said Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Kumar Dev. .
