Amarjit guides Arrows into the Super Cup round of 16

Bhubaneswar : Double strike by Amarjit Singh Kiyam guided the Indian Arrows to enter the round 16 of the 2nd edition of Hero Super Cup by winning over Kerala Blasters FC by 2-0 goals at Kalinga Stadium here on Friday.

Arrows midfielder Amarjit Singh Kiyam scored the opening goal of the second edition of the tournament in the 39th minute with a powerful shoot to the corner of the Kerala's post.

The speed of young Indian Arrows were dominated the first half, though the Kerala Blasters forward Slavisa Stojanovic and Seiminlen Doungel were created few scoring opportunities, but the Arrow's defenders never allowed them to open their account.

Kerala strike Slavisa's powerful strike was on the verge of entering the left corner of the Arrows post, but goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill made a brilliant diving save.

However in the 22 minute the Indian Arrows was got a chance to score the opening goal, while the right winger Lalengmawia's cross pass was landed just infront of Boris Singh's sliding kick passed above the post.

The score board read as 1-0 in favour of the Arrows by the end of first half, after the lemon breaks the Kerala was in a hurry to level the score.

The Arrows forwards were kept the pressure on Kerala which was resulted in hat-trick penalty corner kicks for Arrows. The Kerala defender Anas Edathodika's hand ball inside the D area resulted in a spot kick for Arrows and he was sent back with red card. Amarjit made no mistake to double the lead in the 77th minute. The winning team goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill adjudged as the hero of the match.

We don't have to speak much today, the team is growing match by match and have all potential to surprise any strong team of the country. The winning over Indian giant Mohan Bagan in the I League was the turning point of the team. Our team known for the speed, now the players are also speed in their thought process, said Indian Arrows coach Floyd Pinto.

In another qualifying match of the day, Minerva Punjab FC could not turned up in the schedule time, hence the match referee was declared the Pune City FC as winner and the team entered the round 16. .
