Manish, Sairupa win State U-11 Chess

Bhubaneswar : Overnight joint leader Manish Kumar defeated Anubrata Priyadarshan Sahu in the seventh round to become champion of the State U-11 Open and Girls Chess Championship, which concluded at Ravenshaw University Convention Centre at Cuttack on Wednesday.

Top seeded Manish was gathered seven points by scripting win in all seven rounds, while Harshit Ranjan Sahu become runner up with 6.5 points. In the girls category title claimed by third seeded Sairupa P , she eliminated Prakruti Rout in the seventh round and scored 6.5 points, though Suhan Jena defeated Shruti Snehi in the final round to win the runner up title with 6.5 points.

The top two players of the both the categories will represent the State in the forthcoming National U-11 Chess Championship to be held at Pune in Maharashtra from November 22 to 30.

Utkal Karate School founder Hari Prasad Pattanaik gave away the prizes as the chief guest of the closing ceremony. Among others, GM Debasis Das, SR Chess Centre Director SR Pattnaik, President Subasis Pattanaik , Asit Mukharjee and Ravenshaw University OSD Padan Kumar Jena were present. .
