Mumbai inch closer to win Vs Odisha in Ranji Trophy

Bhubaneswar : Siddhesh Lad's 153-ball 117 runs helped the Mumbai team to declare the second innings 268 for nine by accumulating a overall lead of 412 run against the host Odisha in the group-C league round four day match of the Ranji Trophy at KIIT Ground here on Friday, while stumps were drawn for the third day,Odisha was struggling with 93 for four with skipper Govinda Poddar and Shantanu Mishra batting with 48 and 4 runs respectively.

Earlier in the morning season, Mumbai’s nightwatchman Dhawal Kulkarni had missed an incoming ball from Suryakant Pradhan to see his middle-stump exposed. In no time, captain Aditya Tare and his deputy Suryakumar Yadav joined Kulkarni in the dressing room, leaving Mumbai reeling at 85 for six.

After the batting debacle Mumbai’s crises manager Lad’s focused innings was added 57 runs with Abhisek Nayar (14) and another 76 runs with Akash Parkar (21) for the seventh and eight wickets to revive his team. A ninth-wicket partnership of 42 runs with Shardul Thakur (32) helped Mumbai to declare 268 for 9 in the second innings.

Odisha’s experienced opener Nataraj Behera was once again failed to gave a start to the team in the second innings. The Mumbai bowler Akash Parkar made the host batsman’s life miserable by picking two wickets in last seasons to leave Odisha 93 for four and facing huge task to save the match in the final day.

In reply to Mumbai’s first innings total of 289, the host Odisha were all out for 145 to conceded a lead of 144 runs.
