Mumbai script outright win against Odisha in Ranji Trophy

Bhubaneswar : A centaurian innings each by young star Prithvi Shaw in the first innings and dependable Siddhesh Lad's in the second innings was equally supported by Mumbai bowlers to script their first win in the Ranji Trophy by defeating Odisha 120 runs at KIIT University Ground here on Saturday.

With a outright win Mumbai gathered six points and placed in the third place of the Group-C point standing with total of 10 points by the end of three matches, while Odisha placed in the bottom with two pints. Mumbai opener 17-year Prithvi was scored total 151 runs in the match was adjudged as the man of the match.

In replay to Mumbai’s overall lead of 412 run the host Odisha bowled out for 292 in the second innings.

Odisha was needed 319 runs in the final day, though it was a stiff target to reach, but skipper Govinda Poddar (87) and debutant Santanu Mishra (49) was created a hope for the team to gather a point from the match.

Earlier in the first innings Prithvi Shaw smashed 105 and Mumbai was closed down for 289, in reply Odisha were all out for 145 to conceded a lead of 144 runs.

It was not a easy wicket to bat on, but thanks to Prithvi and Siddesh who made all difference for the team by scoring a ton each. It was never a cake walk to got 20 wickets in a match, Dhabal Kulkarni and Shardul Thakur was the added strength to our bowling line up. Now we are happy that team position has been elevated in the point table, said Mumbai Captain Aditya Tare.

It was a well contested match, but as you catches win matches. We missed a vital catch of Siddesh Lad when he was just scored his half-century. We never had a plane to go for draw, we decided to go all out to chase out the target. Our bowlers were getting wickets in every matches now the time has come the top order batsman to come up.
