Young Spain win over Netherlands in HWLF

Bhubaneswar : The young guns of Spain powered the team to win over Netherlanders with a convincing 3-2 score, in their Pool-A league match of the Odisha Hockey World League Final at Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday

. Ninth ranked Spain reached here with 11 players in the team who had below 50 caps experience. However, Spain got the lead in the final minute of the first quarter by Quemada Pau.

Both Spanish young guns Gonzalez Enrique (50 caps) and Arana Diego (23 caps) contributed a goal each in the 35th and 39th minutes respectively.

Balk Lars (7 caps) opened the account for Netherlanders in the 37th minutes and his-mate Pruijser Lirco netted second goal for the team in the 55th minutes. Santana Ricardo of the winning team bagged the man of the match award.

It was not a disappointing start, the team played good hockey here we missed few chance in the middle of the match. The team will make come back soon, said Dutch captain Billy Bakker.

It is always a matter of pride to play for the country. I am happy that today my team won the match against an experienced campaigner Dutch team, where i also scored a goal, said Gonzalez Enrique who played his 50th match today and adjudged as the junior player of the match award. .
