Hockey World League Final: Spain defeated Argentina

Bhubaneswar : The unforced error caused by Gilardi Juan in front of the Argentina goal post, cost them a penalty stroke in the 59th minute, Spain striker Romeu Josep made no mistake to convert the penalty stroke in the final minute and the team scripted a 2-1 goal win in their last round Pool-A league matches in the Odisha Hockey World League Final at Kalinga Stadium here on Tuesday.

Spain gathered six points by the end of three matches, while Argentina got only one point. The Belgium also in six points after two league round matches.

World No 1 Argentina was dominated the first three quarters with 1-0 lead, the field goal was scored by skipper Paredes Matias in the 21sdt minutes.

In the final quarter, young Spain team demonstrated attacking hockey with Quemada Pau levelled the score in the 50th minutes through a penalty corner.

In the last minute, While Garcia Marc’s ball was rushing towards the post, it was blocked by Argentina defender Gilardi Juan,

unfortunately ball was blocked by the right leg just in front of the goal post. The last minute penalty stroke, pushed Argentina to suffer a 1-2 goal defeat. The last league match between Belgium vs Netherland will decide the quarter final line up.
