ITF Men’s Tennis to be held at Kalinga Stadium from February 23

Bhubaneswar : After the success of 22nd Asian Athletic Championship and Hockey World League Final the Sports and Youth Services Department of Odisha in association with Odisha Tennis Association will host ITF Men’s Circuit Tournament 2018 at Kalinga Stadium here from February 23 to March 3.

In this connection a preparatory meeting was held at Kalinga Stadium on Thursday wherein Sports and Youth Services Department Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev and OTA Secretary also State Transport Commissioner Madhu Sudan Padhy was discussed regarding the infrastructure facility and the requirement for hosting the international tennis meet.

The tournament will feature 32 singles main draw and 16 doubles main draw. The 64 players will participate in the singles qualifying draw, out of wich eight will qualify for the main draw and two will get wild card entry.

The tournament will be played on the hard surface, maximum four and minimum three hard match courts are required for the match with floodlight facility along with that three practice courts to be needed to host the meet. At present Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex is having eight courts and the floodlight installation job has been started.

In the past we had organised Asian U-14 Tennis tournament, but this will be the first international tournament in senior category, many overseas players will participate and the tournament will featured total cash award of USD 15,000. In cooperation with the State Government we will host this international tennis event, said OTA Secretary Madhu Sudan Padhy. .
