Khelo India School Games: Odisha bag 9 medals

Bhubaneswar : A 86-member Odisha contingent bagged total nine medals, which included 3 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze medals and stood 15th in the Khelo India School Games, which concluded at Delhi on Thursday.

On the final day, Odisha boys Hockey edged out Punjab by 2-1 goals and become champion. Sushil Dhanwar scored the opening goal for Odisha in the 33rd minute and his-mate Sudeep Chirmako nailed the second goal in the 46th minute.

Odisha girls football team claimed a bronze medal in the final day, they edged out West Bengal by 8-0 goals.

Pratima Oram and Susmita Tanty contributed a double goal seach, while Parbati Murmu, Gurubari Karjee, Tulsima Kerketa and Basanti Xess were joined the party by scoring a goal each.

Earlier, athlete Ponga Soren and weightlifter Bhaktaram Desti grabbed a gold medal each in the boys 110 hurdles and boys 50kg weight category respectively. The solitary silver medal claimed by lifter Sneha Soren in the girls 48kg category.

Odisha’s ace swimmer Pratyasa Ray was received two bronze medals in the girls 100 and 200 metre backstroke events. While girls football team, boxer SR Sahoo and lifter Nandan Sahu was got a bronze medals each. Sahoo got the medal in the boys 63kg category and Nandan won the medal in boys 75kg discipline. .
