Punjab beat Odisha in U-23 One-day cricket

Bhubaneswar : The stunning top order bating performance by Punjab, put a break to the Odisha’s winning run in the Under-23 Men’s One-day Tournament at Kanpur on Friday, When Odisha lost to Punjab by eight wickets in the quarterfinal match. Before this defeat Odisha had won five matches in a row, four in East Zone League and the pre-quarterfinal match against Manipur.

Batting first, Odisha muster a healthy total of 258 for 7 in the allotted 50 overs. Though four batsmen from Odisha got decent starts, no one could stay long for a big knock Arshdeep Singh was the most successful bowler for Punjab, picking four wickets for 60 run.

In reply, opener Abhijit Garg who literally took the match away from Odisha, he was smashed 124-ball 99 which included nine boundaries. In the process he stitched a 98 run opening partnership with Sanvir Singh (50) and 114 run second wicket partnership along with middle-order batsman Ramandeep Singh. While Ramandeep stood till the end with an unbeaten 86 run innings and guided the team to reach the winning target in 47 overs by losing two wickets.

Brief Score: Odisha 258/7 in 50 overs (Rajesh Duper 37, Subhranshu Senapati 72, Subhransu Senapati 55, Debabrata Pradhan 48; Arshdeep Singh 4/60, N Chaudhary 2/35) lost to Punjab 262/2 in 47 overs (Abhijit Garg 99, Sanvir Singh 50, Ramandeep Singh 86 n.o;) by 8 wickets. .
