Host Unit-VI enter Tata-Utkalika Cup semifinals

Bhubaneswar : Host Unit-VI Athletic Association reached semifinals of 20th Tata-Utkalika Cup Invitation Football Tournament as they came from behind to beat Samaleswari Sporting, Sambalpur 7-6 via sudden death here at Unit-VI High School ground on Sunday.

The hard-fought match went to penalty shoot out as play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw with Samaleswari Sporting taking lead through Karan Oram in the 14th minute and Siddhant Das restoring parity for the home team, converting a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.

But tie-breaker failed to produce decisive result as both the teams scored four goals each. Unit-VI eventually clinched win, converting two spot kicks in the sudden death, against one by Samaleswari.

The home team goalkeeper Jagannath Maharana, who effected a couple of good saves in the shoot out and converted one himself from the spot, was named the player of the match. He received the prize from Ranjit Kumar Behera, Lecturer, Biju Patnaik Institute of Technology.

Bhubaneswar Athletic Association joint-secretary Nabaranjan Patnaik, Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Mohanty, vice-president Prafulla Mishra, secretary Dillip Kumar Das, Priyanath Mishra, Amiyakanta Mishra and Narendra Sethi were present on the occasion.

The match was conducted by referee Raju Mohanty with the support of T Mohan Rao Chandrakanta Barik, Siba Shankar Panda. Maheswar Singh was the match commissioner. Defending champions Tata Football Academy (TFA), Jamshedpur will meet Odisha United Football Club, Cuttack in the last quarterfinal on Monday. .
