FAO XI barge into Tata-Utkalika Cup final

Bhubaneswar : Football Association of Odisha (FAO) XI barged into the final of the 20th Tata-Utkalika Cup Invitation Football Tournament, defeating host Unit-VI Athletic Association by a solitary goal at Unit-VI High School ground here on Tuesday.

Sunil Sardar netted the all-important goal in the 47th minute. FAO XI custodian Soumya Das, who made a brilliant last-minute save, was adjudged the player of the match. He received the prize from eminent industrialist Siba Prasad Panda and FAO vice-president Bhakta Ballav Das. Losing semifinalists Unit-VI Athletic Association were given a cash prize of Rs 5,000.

Barabati Sporting, Cuttack will take on defending champions Tata Football Academy (TFA), Jamshedpur in the second semifinal on Wednesday.

The match was conducted by referee Siba Sankar Panda along with Chandrakanta Barik, Raju Mohanty and S Khan. Maheswar Singh was the match commissioner.

Bhubaneswar Athletic Association joint-secretary Nabaranjan Patnaik, Unit-VI Athletic Association president vice-presidents Akshay Kumar Das, Prafulla Mishra, secretary Dillip Kumar Das, Choudhury Priyanath Mishra and Amiyakanta Mishra were present on the occasion. .
