Top seed Mukund gets winning start in ITF tennis

Bhubaneswar : Top seeded Sasi Kumar Mukund, currently ranked 439 in the world was stretched to the limits as he managed to surpass unseeded Jayaprakash Mohit Mayur in the opening round of the ongoing OTA ITF F1 Futures 2018, been held at the Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex here on Tuesday.

Mukund, seeded 1 in the Main Draw of Men's Singles, took about 1 hr and 54 minutes to outclass fellow Indian, Jayaprakash Mohit Mayur who has a career high world ranking of 577. Mukund won by a marathon 6-7(3),6-3,6-4. He will meet qualifier Dhruv Sunish in the pre-quarter final on Wednesday.

Local wild cards in singles, Ansu Bhuyan and Chinmay Pradhan failed to impress the audience as both went down in the first round without putting up much of a fight. Qualifier Vashisht Cheruku did not take much time to surpass Ansu Bhuyan by a clean 6-1,6-2. Similarly, Suraj Prabodh, another wild card entrant tamed Chinmay Pradhan by an easy 6-2,6-2. .
