Dutee bags gold in Federation Cup

Bhubaneswar : Although Dutee Chand fell short of the qualifying guideline of 11.15m, Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee bagged gold medal in the 100 metre race by clocking 11.60 seconds in the Federation Cup Senior National Athletics Championships at Patiala on Tuesday.

While Prajna S Prakash of Karnataka and Hena of Rajesthan won the silver and bronze medals in the women 100 metre with a timings of 11.81 and 11.83 respectively.

Odisha’s other two athletes Amiya Kumar Mallick and Jauna Murmu had their final in the 100 metre men and 400 metre women respectively. While Amiya finished fifth with 10.70 and Jauna was also completed the race in fifth place clocking 53.66 seconds.

Siva Kumar of Tamil Nadu, marked himself as a sprinter to watch out for as he stunned a 100m field that included National Record holder Amiya Mallick and Asian Indoor bronze medalist Elakkiya Dasan to win a maiden national gold medal with a time of 10.43 seconds.

  Hima Das won the gold medal in the women 400 metre race with 51.97 seconds and crossed the CWG qualifying mark of 52.00 seconds. .
