TFA to meet FAO-XI in Tata-Utkalika Cup final

Bhubaneswar : Defending champions Tata Football Academy (TFA), Jamshedpur will cross swords with Football Association of Odisha XI in the final of the 20th Tata-Utkalika Cup Invitation Football Tournament here at Unit-VI High School Ground on Thursday.

In the semifinal match on Wednesday, TFA came from behind to beat Barabati Sporting, Cuttack 5-4, via penalty shoot out as the match ended in 1-1 draw in the regulation time.

After Sk Imtiaz Ali gave Barabati Sporting the lead in the 14th minute, TFA equalized through Gorachand Mardi in the 75th minute. In the penalty shoot out, TFA converted their first four spot kicks into goals to clinch the win, while Barabati Sporting contended themselves with the losing semifinalist prize of Rs 5,000, wasting two of their five penalty kicks.

Barabati Sporting goalkeeper Sk Kamaluddin, who saved a penalty kick towards the fag end of the match and converted a penalty kick in the tie-breaker, received the Player of the Match prize from Sukinda-Angul Railway Project Managing Director Dillip Kumar Samantaray.

Tata Steel Resident Executive Nrusingha Charan Mohapatra, Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Kumar Mohanty, vice-presidents Akshay Kumar Das, Prafulla Mishra, secretary Dillip Kumar Das, Choudhury Priyanath Mishra and Amiyakanta Mishra were present on the occasion. .
