Bhubaneswar to be a new football hub soon

Bhubaneswar : The dream of making Bhubaneswar as the sports capital of the country moving in a right direction. After the unprecedented success of the Indian Super League match between Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC here at Kalinga Stadium.

The All India Football Federation on Thursday announced that the inaugural edition of the Hero Super Cup, India’s premier Cup tournament to be played in Kalinga Stadium here. The first edition will be organised by Football Association of Odisha in collaboration with Sports and Youth Services Department.

The ISL officials circulated a high image about the well constructed Kalinga Stadium practice and main ground, which have the potential to host highest form of football matches in India. Apart from the ground the city is having different hotels to accommodate more then 20 teams with international air connectivity.

All India Football Federation General Secretary Kushal Das said: “We are very pleased that the Government of Odisha is supporting the tournament which helped us in finalising Bhubaneswar as the venue.”

“I was delighted to see the response in Jamshedpur for the ISL matches and I believe it has become a significant venue in the Hindi heartland,” he added. “I feel this is an opportunity for us to establish Bhubaneswar as a new football hub.” All ten Indian Super League clubs and ten I-League clubs will participate in the Hero Super Cup. The Clubs positioned between 7th and 10th places in the I-League and ISL will play a single leg qualifier to earn a spot in in the final phase of the tournament.
,br> Delhi Dynamos FC and North East United FC will meet Churchill Brothers and Gokulam Kerala FC respectively on March 15. Similarly, Mumbai City FC and ATK will face Indian Arrows and Chennai City FC respectively on March 16 in the qualifier rounds.Two matches will be played on each day with the first one kicking-off at 5pm, while the second match will kick-off at 8pm.

The winners of the four qualifier matches will join the top six ISL and I-League clubs in the final phase of the tournament to be held from March 31. .
