Less than week ahead, preparation work in full swing to host Super Cup

Bhubaneswar : The State Government is having a good will of hosting different international events in appropriate manners. Now less then a week is ahead of hosting Super Cup at Kalinga Stadium, which will kicks starts with qualification rounds here from March 15.

The Sports and Youth Services Department making no stone unturned to prove again that the State can host the fist edition of the Super Cup in a grand way. The ground work for the tournament is in full swing as top 16 football clubs will fight for the top honour.

To host the tournament a preparatory meeting was held here on Friday, wherein Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, Director Vineel Krishna, OSD Sports Chanchal Rana, Football Association of Odisha (FAO) secretary Sanjay Behera along other FAO members were participated.

The day after received the conformation letter from All India Football Federation of India to host the event here. The Kalinga Stadium match ground and the practice ground preparation work has been all ready started from Friday.

As many 16 top teams will take part in the main draw which will begins from March 31 to April 23. Aizawl FC, East Bengal, Minerva Punjab, Mohun Bagan, NEROCA and Shillong Lajong are top six teams of I-league and Pune City, Chennaiyin, Goa, Jamshedpur, Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru are the top six teams of Indian Super League were got direct entry. Rest four teams will join the main draw from the qualification rounds.

Sources said that all the teams will stay near by hotels of the venue, so for them four different grounds are already planned to provide them for their day to day practices. Apart from Kalinga Stadium practice ground, other three places are KIIT University, Utkal University and East Coast Railway Stadium.

Everyday two matches will be held in the qualification rounds and the timings of the matches has been already planned first match will be at 5 PM and the the second one at 8 PM.

Delhi Dynamos FC and North East United FC will meet Churchill Brothers and Gokulam Kerala FC respectively on March 15. Similarly, Mumbai City FC and ATK will face Indian Arrows and Chennai City FC respectively on March 16 in the qualifier rounds.

In the main draw the pre-quarterfinal will be held between March 31 to April 6 and the single day match will start at 8 PM. The quarterfinal, semifinals and the final matches will commenced at 4 PM, sources added. .
