Jauna pulls out from CWG for injury

Bhubaneswar : Misfortune always came with its kith and kins for Odia sprinter Jauna Murmu, two days back the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) announced a 31-member Indian athletic contingent in which she was named to participate in the women 4X400 relay race of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) schedule to be held at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia between 4 and 15 April 2018.

On Tuesday the AFI twitter mention that Meanwhile, Juana Murmu pulls out of 4×400m team for @GC2018 team citing hamstring injury after her race at #FedCup 2018.

Jauna was picked up in the national athletic squad on the basis of her performance in the recently concluded Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships held at Patiala, where she bagged a bronze medal in the women 200 metre race with 24.64 seconds. Though she missed the CWG qualification time of 22.60 seconds, but she has been selected by AFI selection committee to take part in the 4X400 relay event for CWG.

When every athletes were struggling to touch the magical timings to qualify for the Olympics in the year 2016. The Indian women's 4x400m relay quartet consists of Jauna, Ashwini Akkunji, Anilda Thomas and M R Poovamma . The teams qualified for the Rio Olympic at Poland meet. But Jauna missed her name in the final squad.

Presently, only a athlete of the State Purnima Hembram is in the national squad. The ace sprinters Dutee Chand, Srabani Nanda and Amiya Kumar Mallick’s name is not in the Indian athletic team. .
