Odisha likely to host Asian U-18 Girls rugby championships

Bhubaneswar : Former Rugby player and Bollywood actor Rahul Bose along with Rugby India General Manager Nasser Hussain meet Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik here at Secretariat on Tuesday and discussed regarding hosting the Asian U-18 Girls Championships at Bhubaneswar in this year.

Among others, Odisha Rugby Football Association president MLA Priyadarshi Mishra and secretary Upendra Kumar Mohanty were present.

Today we had a fruitful discussing with Chief Minister and he expressed that the State Government will extend all possible support for rugby. We are confident this is the perfect place to host international rugby events. The infrastructure, popularity, sports loving people above all the support of the State Government to organising biggest sporting event of the Country is relay amazing, said Rahul.

In India the rugby sports is growing in a faster pace, earlier the boys and girls from big cities use to play rugby. The scenario has been changed drastically, Odisha girls team were bagged many national tournaments, not only that they are having a special place for them in the national team, added Rahul.

The Asian U-18 Girls Championships is likely held in the month of December 2018. Altogether 16 different Asian countries will participate, said Nasser.who is a frequent visiter to the State for the development of rugby in grassroots level.

In the past we had conducted many national level tournament in Odisha. In particular the grounds at Kalinga Stadium, KIIT University and Utkal University are some of the best ground in India, added Nasser. .
