Chennai, Churchill, Gokulam, North East arrive for Super Cup qualifier

Bhubaneswar : The capital city is gripping up with soccer fever as of Tuesday four teams were reached here to play the qualifiers of the inaugural edition of Hero Super Cup, which will be played at the Kalinga Stadium here on March 15 and 16.

Churchill Brothers of Goa, Chennai City FC, Gokulam Kerala FC and North East United FC are the teams arrived here to start their campaign. The four teams are having different opinion regarding the new Super Cup tournament formed by All India Football Federation.

In the qualifying rounds Delhi Dynamos FC and North East United FC will meet Churchill Brothers and Gokulam Kerala FC respectively on March 15. while, Mumbai City FC and ATK will face Indian Arrows and Chennai City FC respectively on March 16.

The 23-year old Soosairaj M, captain of Chennai City FC team, impressed during this year's I-League and scored three goals. The team finished eighth with 19 points with four wins, seven draws and seven losses from 18 games.

As a young player I had played here in the Football Association of Odisha (FAO) Football League representing the Sunrise Club in the year 2015 and 2016. I had never forgot that our team was the champion of that tournament. I am being happy to play here again, said Kanyakumari boy Soosairaj.

This is yet another chance to prove your potential, no dout after I League and ISL this is a big tournament. The boys will go all out against ATK to book the berth in the main draw, said Chennai City FC coach Soundararajan.

The debutant Gokulam Kerala FC was ended their I-League journey with a creditable seventh spot finished. The missed the direct entry to the Hero Super Cup qualification round by a whisker.

The Gokulam Kerala FC coach Bino George is having a different opinion about the forthcoming tournament, he said a single bad day for the team will show them the exist door. In the I league we had pulled off stunning win against West Bengal gants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. This will be the first time the I league teams will face ISL teams which better for the Indian football.

While Churchill Brothers coach Alfred Fernandes believe though the team finished in the ninth position in the I League, it will be another chance for the team to compete with top clubs of the country. .
