234 players to join Kesabananda Memorial FIDE rating chess

Bhubaneswar : Altogether 234 players from across 13 States will take part in the five-day 7th Keshabananda Das Memorial All India FIDE Rating Chess Championship, which will begins at Hotel Empires, Saheed Nagar here from Tuesday.

The 32-year Somak Palit is the top rated players with Elo 2359 ratings. Among the local players 21-year Rakesh Kumar Nayak is the top rated with Elo rating 2036 and placed as the 11th seeded in the tournament.

The nine-round tournament is featuring a cash award of Rs 5 lakhs to be distributed among 72 winners including 20 merit holders, nine winners each in ELO 1001-1500 rating and ELO 1501-1800 rating categories.

While three unrated winners, best women player, two best veteran and 42 age group winners in both boys and girls sections ( U-6 , U-7 , U-8 , U-9 , U-10 , U-11, U 13) will get cash awards.

The tournaments will be played in three different sections. The champion of the open category will receive a cash award of Rs 50,000, while the top finishers of both ELO 1001-1500 and ELO 1501-1800 rating categories will get Rs 30,000 each, informed Khurdha Districts Chess Association secretary Subhasis Pattnaik. .
