Goa FC beat ATK to enter Super Cup quarterfinals

Bhubaneswar : The combination attack of Hugo Adnan Boumous and Ferran Corominas helped Goa FC to retain their wining strike against ATK, Goa edged out ATK by convincing 3-1 goals in the pre-quarterfinal match of the Hero Super Cup at Kalinga Stadium here on Tuesday.

The last time when these two sides met, Goa thrashed ATK by 5-1 goals, which incidentally was their first win over the Kolkata-based club in Indian Super League.

With scripting win over ATK here, the Goa FC entered the quarterfinal rounds to meet Jamshedpur FC on April 12. Earlier Aizwal FC, Mohun Bagan, Jamshedpur FC and Bengaluru FC are the four quarterfinal teams placed in the Pool-A, while Goa FC is the first team to qualify for the quarterfinal in the Pool-B.

Just before the end of the first half, Goa mid-fielder Hugo Adnan Boumous who threads a first time through ball into the path of Ferran Corominas who raced past the ATK defence line but choosed to cutback and square the ball to an unmarked Boumous to his right. The midfielder's first time effort was flies over the bar in the 43rd minutes and the team missed a scoring chance.

Goa striker Corominas was opened the account for the team in the first-half injury time 45+1 minute. Mid-fielder Eduardo Bedia Pelaez was managed to split the ATK defence to forward the ball to Spain striker Corominas, who executed a neat finish with his powerful kicks made it 1-0 by end of first-half.

After the change of sides, ATK looks all together different with its attacking style, skipper Robert Keane scored the equaliser for the team in the 50th minute. While defender Anwari Ali was flicked a header towards the far post where Robbie Keane was waiting unmarked. The skipper neatly soots the ball towards the far corner which resulted in 1-1 score.

It was surprised package for ATK, as Goa mid-fielder Hugo Boumous who seemed to be an offside position, but referee could not raised the flag, in the one to one encounter with ATK goalkeeper Soram Poirei Anganba France, mid-fielder Boumous scripted a 2-1 lead for Goa in the 70th minute.

Goa double their lead in the 77th minute, while Narayan Das’s low cross into the centre was found Coromines in the left corner, who pushed the ball for Brandon Fernandes, who made no mistake to rest the ball inside the net. It was Brandon who nailed the final goal and snatched the match from ATK and adjudged as hero of match. .
