East Bengal to meet Aizwal FC in Super Cup quarterfinals

Bhubaneswar : East Bengal came close to chasing down Minerva Punjab for the I-League title but they failed, however with their dominating style they edged out Mumbai City FC by 2-1 goal to enter the quarterfinal of the Hero Super Cup here at Kalinga Stadium on Thursday. East Bengal will face Aizwal FC in the quarterfinals on April 8.

However, after scripting initial lead the Mumbai City once again disappointed their fans at home. Earlier, they missed out on a playoff spot in this year Indian Super League season.

Mumbai mid-fielder Sahil Tavora was got the ball outside the box, centrally. He took a touch inorder to create room for a shot, suddenly he was brought down by East Bengal defender Eduardo Soares which was resulted in a free kick for Mumbai. Mumbai mid-fielder Achille Emana Edzimbi was shot the free kick and made the stadium pin drop silent in the 22nd minute. His magnificent free-kick that hit the right corner of the bar and entered into the post and Mumbai City took the 1-0 lead.

Mumbai’s lead was lasted for three minutes only, while East Bengal mid-fielder Laldanmawia Ralte was delivered a prefect free-kick from the right corner to Katsumi Yusa and his close-range header equalised the score for Mumbai City and the first came to an end with 1-1 score.

After the change of sides, East Bengal looks all together in a different colour. The combination of Katsumi Yusa, Mahmoud Al Amna and Khalid Aucho created many chances for the team.

Finally in the 73rd minutes, Mahmoud Al Amna who scored the final goal to took away the match from Mumbai.

It all happened, when Laldanmawia Ralte pushed a powerful kicks into the Mumbai’s net from the right flank, however the goalkeeper Amrinder Singh was came into action by deflecting it, but it was landed in the path of Al Amna, who blasted it into the net and adjudged as the hero player of the match. .
