Saina bags double team gold in Asian Youth chess

Bhubaneswar : Odisha’s ace chess player Saina Salonika bagged double team gold medals in the Under 16 girl category in the Asian Youth Standard Chess Championship and Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship held at Chiangmai Thailand from April 1 to 9.

Earlier Saina got individual gold in the Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship in the U-16 Girl category by scoring six points out of seven rounds.Saina with (6) ,Sanjana Raghunath (4.5) and Tejaswi M (4) points fetched team gold medal for India surpassing Vietnam team who got the team silver medal in the Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship.

In the Standard Chess event Saina missed the medal by a whisker with 6.5 points she finished 4th. However, Saina, Makhija Ashna with 6.5 points each and Sanskrit Goal (5) points helped Indian to secured the team gold medal in the Asian Youth Standard Chess Championship in the Under 16 girl category.

With two team gold and a individual medal increased her international medals tally to 15. She is a Grade X student of KIIT International School.Saina also got the National Child Award for exceptional achievements from the President of India in 2014 . .
