Mohun Bagan beat Lajong to enter Super Cup semis

Bhubaneswar : The Indian giant football club Mohun Bagan dominated the show from the first minute of the quarterfinal match against Shillong Lajong and scripted a thumping 3-1 win to enter the semi-final of the first edition of the Hero Super Cup at Kalinga Stadium here on Wednesday.

Misfortunes always came with its kith and kins, in one end Shillong Lajong failed to score in several occasion, all credit goes to the Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Shilton Paul who frustrated Lajong’s strikers again and again. In another accession, while the Lajong skipper Samual Lalmuanpuia could not convert a spot kick and defender Laurence Doe scored a self goal.

Mohun Bagan was all over the Lajong in the initial stage. The mid-fielder Sk Faiaz opened the account for Mohun Bagan in the early 12 minute of the play.

Lajong’s young skipper Samuel Lalmuanpuia missed a scoring opportunity in the 26th minute, while he missed the spot kick shoot. The Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Shilton Paul was gone down in time to save a clear scoring chance.

Desperate Lajong skipper Samuel was got into the box , in between Abdoulaye Koffi rushed into the box and his stunning header resulted a goal for Lajong in the 28th minute and the first half score board read as 2-1 in favour of Mohun Bagan.

Mohun Bagan’s defender Arijit Bagui’s stupendous cross was reached into the centre of the box where Akram Moghrabi attempted a diving header, unfortunately ball gone into the net off Lajong’s defender Laurence Doe and Mohun Bagan scripted a 3-1 goal win. .
