Wagh Suyog solo leader in Kesabananda chess

Bhubaneswar : Third seeded Wagh Suyog of Maharashtra gathered six points by the end of sixth rpund and became solo leader in the five-day 7th Keshabananda Das Memorial All India Open Fide Rating Chess Championship 2018 held here on Thursday.

Suyog edged out Ambarish Sharma of West Bengal and his State-mate Akhilesh Nagare in the fifth and sixth rounds to become top leader.

While top seeded IM Somak Palit of Indian Railway and Arpan Das of WB jointly shared the second spot with 5.5 points each. However, 13 players were in the third place with five points each including Aditya Ranjan Samal, Manish Kumar and Priyabrata Samanta Singh of host State players.

On the top board low rated Arpan (elo 2166) caused a upset in the sixth round by forcing IM Somak (elo 2359) to share points with him. Local boy Susobhit Das (elo 1892) also caused a upset in the fifth round by scripting a draw with IM Rajesj VAV (elo 2326). .
