Odia rugby player Minarani shines in West India team

Bhubaneswar : In the men’s dominated sports of rugby, Odia girl Minarani Sahoo created a special place for her. It is hard to digest a girl from a small village Balarampur of Malud become a integral part of West India women rugby team, which comprising players of Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Gujarat had bagged the title of National Zonal Rugby 15-a-side Championships held at Guru Nank Dev University in Amritsar in Punjab on Saturday.

Earlier, she was played for the Magician Foundation India rugby team of Mumbai and got selected in the West India team to play the national meet. She is the only Odia player in their team which maintained the 100 percentage win percentage by defeating South, North, East and Central teams.

Minarani the second daughter of Kumari Sahoo and Ekadasi Sahoo expressed this is the highest honour for me to part of the winning team, in particular to playing under the captainship of Vahbiz Bharucha. She was not only guided me in the ground also motivated me how to control the nerves in the top level matches.

The tournament served as a platform for shortlisting players for the training camp of the Indian national team in preparation for the upcoming Asia Rugby Championship Women’s 15’s Rugby later this year. I am hopeful that my name may be in the national campers lists which will be another milestone of my sporting career, added Minarani. .
