CM directs foolproof arrangements for Hockey World Cup 2018

Bhubaneswar : Few years back sports and players never was a prime subject for the State as well as the common man. But after hosting different international events in the State, Sports become a frontline subject for many.

It was not only successfully hosting of the events, Odisha also surprised the nation, becoming the first State of the country to sponsor National hockey team for coming five years.

As Odisha will be the host for the Hockey World 2018 at Kalinga Stadium here from November 28 to December 16 and in the coming year Odisha will also host Asian Junior Women Rugby Championships which is also another international event.

Reviewing @DSYS_Odisha, CM @Naveen_Odisha directed foolproof arrangements for Hockey World Cup 2018 to further elevate #Odisha ‘s stature as the Sports Capital of India. He instructed expeditious completion of mini stadiums,rural play grounds & high performance athletics academy.

Odisha already surprised the nation regarding its potential to host different international events with a very short time. We proved to become the sports capital of the country, said Sports and Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera

Now time has come to upgrade our coaching standard to become top sporting State of the nation by producing top class players..

To provide better coaching and infrastructural facility to the players, the Sports Department in association with Sports Authority of India (SAI) has been set up badminton, weightlifting and archery academies in Bhubaneswar, Gopalpur and Sundargarh respectively.

In view of cumulative growth of sports infrastructure the State Government had sanctioned Rs 92.40 crore for the construction of Mini Stadium in 314 blocks and 113 in Urban Local Body's out of which 162 Mini Stadium was already constructed, informed Behera.

After the unprecedented succes of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships here in the year 2017, the Odisha government has taken the first big leap towards building the future of athletics in the State The State Government was signed with the International Associations of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for establishment of a high-performance academy here.

The State has been planned to spend Rs 15 to 20 crore to start the academy before the month of August 2018, added Behera .
