Odisha-AFI-IAAF High Performance Academy to start before Aug

Bhubaneswar : To expedite the moment for shaping up the high-performance academy at Kalinga Stadium here. The Sports and Youth Services Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev met Athletic Federation of India officials on March 30 at Delhi.

After the unprecedented succes of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships here in the year 2017, the Odisha government has taken the first big leap towards building the future of athletics in the State The State Government was signed with the International Associations of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for establishment of a high-performance academy here.

The centre to be called Odisha-AFI-IAAF High Performance Academy, it would be located at Kalinga Stadium and have professional environment and support to athletics, track and field events.

The State has been planned to spend Rs 15 to 20 crore to start the academy before the month of August 2018. Earlier we had given advertisement for the post of program director and chief coach but could not able to get perfect candidature. AFI suggested tow names Mick Bido and Demetri Vinayaka, they will visit soon, said Dev.

Initially the academy will start will 100, 200 and 400 metre sprinting events. After that we will go for long distance and jumping disciplines.The academy will provide coaching, integrated support services, education and experience to athletics. It will have the objective of creating an eco-system in which youth and junior talents can grow and make a career to take part in international events,added Dev. .
