Bhubaneswar : To create international standard sports complex in the capital city, the Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Kumar Dev put forward a proposal to the General Administrative Department to allocate the vacant land of the Kalinga Studio, which created a hue and cry situation among the Odia Film industry on Saturday.

The Kalinga Studio is a heritage site for Odia film industries, not only that for film makers it is having a special importance., we are not having excess land rather we needed added land for the studio. It is a welcoming step that the Sports department is keen to develop a sports complex in Bhubaneswar , but not at the coast of Kalinga Studio land. In any point of time we will not leave a square of land to any authorities, said Odisha Film Development Corporation Chairman Munna Khan.

Spread over 25 acres, Kalinga Studio came into being in 1982. At that time many filmmakers heaved a sigh of relief as they thought they would not have to run to Kolkata, Chennai or Mumbai anymore to either for shooting or in-studio work such as editing. In present scenario more than 25 Odia movies are being filmed every year in the State. Due to lack of infrastructure, the producers and directors are moving outside the state for shooting which incurred a huge added expenses for them. So, once Kalinga Studio is developed, they would prefer to shoot and record movies for cost saving while it would enable OFDC to generate revenue," added Khan.

Veteran actor Mihir Das expressed it is not wise to reduce the size of Kalinga Studio, it may be a studio for many but we the Odia Film facility consider this as the heart of our industries, eventually which carries lot of memories science inception. .
