Odisha Government inks MoU with PGMF for Badminton Academy

Bhubaneswar : In a bid to develop badminton sports and set up World class badminton academy in the State, the Sports and Youth Services Department inked an MoU with the Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation (PGMF) here on Friday.

Sports and Youth Services secretary Vishal Kumar Dev and national badminton coach P Gopichand signed the MoU in presence of Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik.

The PGMF will be driving the Badminton academy at Odisha and will be responsible for providing technical support and the overall development of Badminton in the State.

Speaking on the association, Naveen Patnaik said, “ the state aspires to win Olympic medals in sports and there is no better than Pullela Gopichand to help Odisha realising this dream..He has produced many national and international medalists for the country. He was groomed the career of big names like Saina Nehal, P V Sandhu, K Srikanth, Parupalli Kashyap and many more. The CM said.

The World class badminton training facility will help to groom world class champions from the State.

Sports and Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarthi Behra, said, “We are proud to associate with Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation (PGMF) which will help us develop badminton stars of the future.”

“It is an honour for us to be associated with the Govt. of Odisha and we are aligned to their vision to keep producing world class talent. The trajectory of badminton as a sport in India has hit new hights in the recent past. The academy in Odisha will help in keeping the momentum up, and we hope to nurture great talent right from the grass roots to the international levels.”, expressed Pullela Gopichand. .
