131 join State U-11 chess meet

Bhubaneswar : Altogether 131 players from across 11 districts are taking part in the Odisha State (U-11) Open and Girls Chess Championship at Shree Gundicha Bhakta Niwas, Puri from Friday.

District Chess Association of Puri is organising the meet which was inaugurated by Puri Municipality Chairman Jayant Kumar Sarangi.

Total 81 players including 26 rated players will fight for the top honour in the open category while 50 girls are in the title race of the girls section. The top four players of each group will represent the State in the forthcoming National U-11 chess championships.

Shreyash Suvam Patnaik and Prakruti Rout have been top seeded in the open and girls categories respectively. After the end of the second rounds in the inaugural day, 17 and 10 players jointly shared the top place with two points each in the open and girls events respectively. .
