FIH director express satisfaction on Hockey Men’s World Cup venue

Bhubaneswar : International Hockey Federation Event Director made a two-day visit to Gabrielle van Zwieten made a two-day visit to the Capital city of the State and expressed her satisfaction with the progress of work going on at Kalinga Stadium here on Monday.

The State geared up to host the biggest tournament in hockey, the Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 starting 28 November 2018, which will witness 16 top teams in the world vie for the top spot.

During the schedule she was attended the 5th Executive Committee meeting for organisation of the world cup chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi.

The infrastructural work at the Kalinga Stadium includes the up-gradation of seating capacity to 15,000. The Stadium will also get two brand new pitches. The flood lights at both main pitch and the practice pitch too have been upgraded while the entire main stadium is being given a face-lift with wider roads, new gates, permanent CCTV cameras for safety point of view ,will be finished in the month of September, said Padhi.

Sports and Youth Services Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev said: "We are all quite happy and satisfied with the ongoing preparations for the Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018. Our aim is to permeate the image of Odisha globally through the mega event. All the state departments are working together to expedite the same.

We also have a number of campaigns lined up which begins from next month to create a buzz about the world cup nationwide.. We shall also publicise about the Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 at the Hockey Women's World Cup in London which kickstarts next month, added Dev.

On Tuesday, Gabrielle will also be visiting the remaining facilities to complete her inspection visit, to check the preparedness to host the International teams. "I am delighted with the progress of work here at the Kalinga Stadium and I am quite confident the venue will be ready well within the stipulated time. I am confident the hockey fraternity will witness a spectacular event starting this November," stated Gabrielle van Zwieten,

The sixteen participating teams will play three matches each during the league stage over the span of twelve days before four cross-over matches take place on 10th and 11th December, 2018. The knockout matches will take place on 12th, 13th, 15th and 16th as the teams will look to become the Champions of the prestigious quadrennial event which was won by Australia in 2014.

Meanwhile The online tickets sale has been already begins, now available at The general tickets for the event are reasonably priced at Rs 200 (East Stand), Rs 100 (North Stand) and Rs 100 (South Stand) for the Pool and Crossover matches while tickets for the knockout matches are priced at Rs 250 (East Stand), Rs 150 (North Stand) and Rs 150 (South Stand). .
