Dutee, Purnima qualify for Asian Games

Bhubaneswar : Odisha’s ace sprinter Dutee Chand created history by continuing her record as the fastest women of the country by clocking 11.29 seconds in the semifinal of the women 100-meter race at the 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships, which concluded at Guwahati on Friday.

Dutee rewrote her previous national record which she had created by clocking 10.30 seconds at New Delhi last year. She, however, secured gold medal by clocking 11.32 seconds in the finals at Guwahati. Her gold medal winning time was well inside the qualifying mark of 11.52 secs for the Jakarta Asian Games.

On the inaugural day of the Inter-state national meet, Dutee had qualified for the Asian Games for 200-meter race with 23.45 secs, better than the qualifying mark of 23.50 secs.

Asian Championships bronze medalist Odia heptathlete Purnima Hembram maintained her supremacy to win the gold medal with 5898 points on the concluding day of the National athletic meet. It far ahead of Asian Games qualifying mark of 5040 points. .
