Bureaucrat XI retain Tata Friendship Cup title

Bhubaneswar : Defending champion Bureaucrat XI retained the title by defeating Tata Steel XI by 1-0 goal in the 12th edition of Tata Steel Friendship Cup Football Tournament at Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday.

S D Durga of the champion team scored the all important goal in the second half to sealed the final match.

Earlier in the semifinals, a double goal each haul Balwant Singh and K Pradip guided Bureaucrat XI into the final by winning over Leaders XI by 4-0 goals.

The nail biting semifinal between Tata Steel XI and Media XI ended in 1-1 goal draw in the stipulated time. However Tata Steel XI barged into the final 5-4 goals through tie breaker .

Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi officially inaugurated the friendship cup in presence of Sports and Youth Services Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera, ST and SC Development Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, Housing & Urban Development Minister Niranjan Pujari, senior bureaucrats, journalists along with Arun Misra, Chairman, Tata Steel SEZ.

Suresh Mohapatra, Saswat Mishra and Balwant Singh of Bureaucrat XI team were received the best Half , defence and highest scorer award respectively, while the team got the best disciplined team award.

Rajiv Seth of Tata Steel XI and Bikash Marandi of the Media XI got best goalkeeper and forward award respectively, while Arun Sahu of Leaders XI won the Fair Player Award of the tournament.

Ravi, Bureau Chief, The Statesman, Srimoy Kar, Senior Journalist, Dilip Bisoi, Editor, MBC TV, Tapan Mishra, Senior Journalist, Samaja, Arun Misra, Chairman, Tata Steel SEZ, distributed prizes to both the champion and runners up teams in the closing ceremony. .
