Pyari guides Odisha into National women football final

Bhubaneswar : A hat-trick goals haul by Pyari Xaxa guided Odisha into the final of the 24th National Senior Women National Football Championship, defeating defending champion Tamil Nadu by 4-3 goals at Cutttack on Saturday.

In the keenly contested semifinal match, initially Tamil Nadu got 2-0 lead scoring by Sumithra R and Indumati in the 10th and 16th minutes respectively.

At 25th minutes of the game Pyrai opened the account for Odisha to make it 2-1 and Anju Tamang equalized score in the 31st minutes. In the injury time of the first-half, Pyari scored again in the 45+2 minutes to give a 3-2 lead.

After the change of sides, however at 77th minutes Indumati scored a goal to level the score board 3-3 for Tamil Nadu and the match ended 3-3 draw in the Regulation time.

In the extra-time Pyari was stocked again in the 110th minute to complete her hat-trick and the team scripted a 4-3 victory.

Another semifinal match between Manipur and Indian Railways ended in goalless draw in the allotted time. In the tiebreaker last year runner-up Manipur won the match by 4-3 goals.

Odisha will play against Manipur in the final at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Monday. .
