Bhubaneswar : A hattrick tries haul by winger Sweety Kumari guided India into the cup semifinals of the 3rd Asia Rugby U-18 Girls 7S Championship, defeating Qatar 31-0 in the quarterfinal match at Kalinga Stadium on Saturday.

India vice-captain Sumitra Nayak also scored 10 points through double tries in the quarterfinal, while skipper Sandhya Ray scored six points through conversion.

Earlier in the Pool-B league matches, India scripted easy win against Bangladesh 89-0, while in the nail biting last league round match, Sweety scored four tries and helped India to become Pool-B topper by winning over Sri Lanka by 24-15.

India and Thailand will face Hong Kong and China respectively in the semifinals to be played on Sunday.

Similarly in other quarterfinal matches of the day, Thailand, Hong Kong and China edged out UAE, Sri Lanka and Philippines 36-7, 51-0 and 56-0 respectively to conform their semifinal berth.

We played better game today, our winger Sweety is always a top scorer in the team. It was not a easy match as Qatar was a strong team but we defeated them with our speed. In our semifinal encounter we will face one of the title favorite Hong Kong, said vice-captain Sumitra Nayak.

The seven a side rugby format is more a speed game, as a athlete I do enjoy the maximum because I was a 100 metre sprinter in the athletic event, my best timing was 12.45 seconds in the junior national meet. Match by match the way our team is moving I am confident we will do podium finish, said Bihar athlete turned rugby player Sweety Kumari. .
