Bhubaneswar : In a bid to develop sports culture, the Sports and Youth Services Department has tied up with Emerging Sports to jointly host Asia’s 1st International Sports Literary meet, the mega event named as Ekamra Sports Literary Festival 2018 to be held here on November 2 and 3.

The Lit fest will bring together national and international sports star and writers under on roof to create a sporting culture in the country.

Emanate sports personality Ben Johnson, Stephanie Rice, Dilip Tirkey, Mohammed Kaif, Jeff Thompson, Ajinkya Rahane, Yogeshwar Dutt, Madeleine Pape and more will participate as key speaker in the conversations, said Author Sundeep Misra.

It is little bit surprise for me that due to VISA problem sports writer Richard Moore and Andrew Downie the Brazilian correspondent for Garden may not participate in the fest. How can you reject the VISA of sports author and sports journalist when are going to join a sports Lit fest, said Sundeep.

Even as the number of books written on sports has increased manifold not only in India but across the world, there is no platform with the right scale and canvas bringing the authors and sports persons of international acclaim together. With prominent foreign authors and sports persons coming to Bhubaneswar, the city will get an international image and will also be seen as a hub for debate on sports and literature.

In the world of Sports Literature, Bhubaneswar, Odisha will be a major stop every year where authors, writers, thinkers gather to discuss sport. We hope that the Sports Literature Festival can be a natural progression in the direction that Odisha has taken in the field of sport.

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and gymnast Dipa Karmakar will added more value to the Lit fest.

Ahead of Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup we likely to set a benchmark by organising international standard Sports Literary Festival in the State. Many former players and present heroes of Indian athletes will enthralled the festival, said Sports and Youth Services Secretary Vishal Dev. .
