Lilima Minz gets Ekalabya Puraskar

Bhubaneswar : Lilima Minz the dependable midfielder of Indian women hockey team has been conferred with 26th Ekalabya Puraskar 2018 held here on Sunday.

She received a cash award of Rs 5 lakh along with a citation, while two other women sportspersons, weightlifter Jhili Dalabehera and shuttler Rutuparna Panda were felicitated for their remarkable performances at various International and National level in their respective fields and both got a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- each along with citations. On behalf of Jhili Dalabehera her coach received award as she is in the national team for international meet.

More than 100 caped Lilima made her debut for Indian senior women team in 2011 during a four-nation tournament in Argentina. She was also part of the squad that represented India in 2016 summer Olympics.She was also part of the Indian team that won the gold medal Women’s Hockey Asia Cup after a gap of 13 years at Kakamigahara city in Japan on 2017

. I am extremely happy with honour, when was made my international debut in the year 2011 started dreaming of getting the Ekalabya award, today my dream come true. I am dedicating this award to my family, teammates and coaches, said Olympian Lilima Minz.

I felt excited when got the honour to becoming the first women from my State to take part in the international badminton meet. I was bagged my first ever international title Hellas Open Badminton Championships held at Greece in the month of October 2018. I need lot of blessing from all to grow further, said Rutuparna.

The Ekalabya Puraskar has been instituted by IMPaCT with a bid to promote young players who are below 25 years. To day the Ekalabya award completed its 26th year. The social wing of IMFA, which has been promoting literature, sports, the arts, culture and other socially meaningful activities in the state for decades, said former MP Baijayant Panda. .
