Flags flying high in Kalinga Stadium

Bhubaneswar : Just five more days to go for the biggest field hockey events the Kalinga Stadium venue is getting a bridal looks to host the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup from November 26.

The renovated Kalinga Stadium is all set to welcome its overseas teams who are arriving one by one every day. Before they reach to the ground for their practice seasons.The national flags of all 16 participating teams are flying high in the stadium. As you know, Hockey has a prominent place in the sports history of Odisha. The state has produced brilliant hockey players who have brought laurels for the country at the international arena. The World Cup is hockey's highest ranking tournament so the State has took all possible steps to provide a international looks and facility for the players as well as spectators.

The Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 is the 14th edition of the prestigious field hockey World Cup tournament, which is going to host for the third times in India.

To spread the massage about the environment protection in the biggest competition in Men’s Hockey. Earlier Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik flagged off a plantation drive inside the stadium by planting 16 trees as the part of ‘Green and Clean World Cup’. With planting the first sapling, Patnaik sent out a symbolic message across the State in support of the drive ahead of the mega international hockey event

The State Government has vowed to host a plastic-free World Cup here. The initiative is aimed at showcasing the Capital as an environment friendly city.

A total of 16 countries will be participating in the tournament, namely hosts India, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, England, Spain, Pakistan, New Zealand, France, China, South Africa, Malaysia, Canada and Ireland. A total of 36 matches will be played during the 19-day event. .
