Padmini bags gold in Asian Continental chess

Bhubaneswar : International Master Padmini Rout bagged gold medal by securing 7 points from a total of 9 rounds in the Asian Continental Chess Championship at Makati in Philippines on Tuesday.

Padmini started her campaign as the eighth-ranked player and finished at the top with seven points from nine rounds. Remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament, she won five games and drew four to become won the top prize and a cash award of 4000 dollar.Woman Grand Master Qianyun Gong (Singapore) and International Master Le Thao Nguyen Pham (Vietnam) claimed the silver and bronze medal with seven and 6.5 points respectively.

Along with the continental gold, the 24-year-old Padmini has also secured qualification for the Women’s World Chess Championships scheduled to take place in 2020.
