Belgium bag Odisha Hockey Mens World Cup title

Bhubaneswar : The dark horse Belgium bagged their first ever 14th Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup title , winning over Netherlands by 3-2 in sudden death round at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday.

Their is many slip between the cups and the lips. During the shoot out, Netherlands goalkeeper Pirmin Blaak saved first two shoot of Belgium striker Arthur van Doren and Felix Denayer, in other hand Belgium goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch made a diving save of the Micro Pruijser but he missed first shoot of Jeroen Hertzberger.

Florent van Auble opened the account for Belgium in the soot out , but Oranje kept their 2-1 lead with the score by Jonas de Geus by the end of three rounds of shoot out. In the fourth strike Victor Wegnez leveled the score 2-2, as Seve van Ass of Netherlanders missed his strike.

In the fifth strike, Belgium goalkeeper Vincent saved the shoot of Thijs van Dam, but the Arthur de Sloover of Belgium all most scored the winning goal but referee denied the goal after the referral and the shoot out ended in 2-2 draw.

In the sudden death round, Belgium got the lead through a goal by Florent van Auble, while Jeoren Hertzberger of Netherlands missed his strike and Belgium won the final by 3-2.

Last edition's runner up Netherlands bagged gold medal in the year 1973, 1990 and 1998. They were host the World Cup for three times in the year 1973, 1998 and 2014. They won twice gold medal while hosting the Cup.

Netherlands who were finished eighth times on podium which included three gold, three silver and two bronze medals before the 14th editions of Hockey Men's World Cup, while the Belgium were never got any medals in the world cup from the inception of the tournament and their best was the fifth place in the year 2014.

Both the teams were started their final campaign with little bit safe, as the game progressed the Belgium was displayed a progressive hockey. The first half ended with 0-0 on the board.

The Red Lions were in search of the first score, which gave them two PC in the second quarter, but the Netherlands made a brilliant save, Belgium had a bad conversation rate in this tournament as of now they won 36 PC and scored five goals only. The first half score remain unchanged 0-0.

Both teams were put a good defending show to contain the score board intact, in other hand their attack was not upto their standard. The match ended in goal less draw. .
